Salad Creations Combats Portion Distortion with Sensible
Sizing™ Menu Launch
- New Jr.Creation Salads Allow Guests to Make
Even Healthier Choices -
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 20 /PRNewswire/ --
Salad Creations, recently named the number one salad franchise
in Entrepreneur magazine's "2008 Franchise 500", announced
today the launch of its Sensible Sizing TM menu. The antithesis
of super sizing, Sensible Sizing meets guests' growing demand
for healthier foods that balance portion size with taste and
value.
The
Sensible Sizing menu features a full line of smaller portioned
Jr.Creation salads that include all 11 of Salad Creations' featured
salads like the Heart Lover, Chinese Chopstick and Wild Alaskan
Salmon. Junior Creations are also available as a "Create
Your Own" where guests can choose up to four throw-ins
from more than 40 ingredients. Jr.Creation Salads begin at $4.99
compared to the franchise's larger FullCreation Salad, which
starts at $5.99.
The
national launch of the Sensible Sizing menu was a result of
a seven-market test earlier this year which produced a more
than 90 percent approval rating for the Jr.Creation Salad's
taste, portion size, appearance and quality of ingredients.
Additionally, 97 percent of guests also planned to re-order
the Jr.Creation size due to its overall value.
From
wallet to waistline, the financial and nutritional cost of upgrading
to super sizes continues to take its toll on Americans and the
U.S. economy. According to the National Institutes of Health,
two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are overweight, which represents
a more than $100 billion drain on the country's resources.
"More
and more Americans are suffering from obesity and related problems
like heart disease and diabetes," said Jeff Levine, president
and chief executive officer, Salad Creations. "We need
to take responsibility and teach each other and our children
what a healthy lifestyle is by promoting balanced eating and
portion control. Sensible Sizing creates an opportunity for
our guests to make the best possible food choices to fit their
needs and tastes."
As
Americans also face discouraging economic forecasts and thinning
wallets, Sensible Sizing allows customers to stretch their dollar
as far as possible. In fact, according to the NPD Group's "Fast
Check" Custom Study from February 2008, 24 percent of people
are ordering less-expensive entrees and 25 percent of people
are more likely to order value driven items. With Sensible Sizing,
Salad Creations will now have additional appeal to this cost
conscious consumer with salads that start at a $4.99 price point.
"At
Salad Creations, we want to empower our guests with the flexibility
to make the best possible choice to fit their lifestyle,"
said Levine. "Now with Sensible Sizing, our guests have
that same flexibility in choosing the right portion size to
fit their nutritional and economic needs. For some people the
old adage remains true even with a salad -- all things in moderation."
Each
Salad Creations restaurant features more than 40 ingredients
to choose from including farm-fresh vegetables, fruits, cheeses,
sliced meats, wild Alaskan salmon and over 15 salad dressings.
Specially-trained Salad Chefs prepare each customer's order
and, if asked, can help match particular tastes to customize
each individual's salad experience. All salads can be either
tossed or chopped.
In
addition to the "Create Your Own Salad" option, Salad
Creations also offers more than 10 featured salads and a variety
of daily soup specials and fresh wraps.
